Chinese economy will not face 'hard landing': Xi Jinping

Xi Jinping delivers a speech at an economic forum held during his five-day trip to the US.

Xi Jinping, vice president of China, said on his five-day trip to the United States that this year will be key for his country's 12th five-year plan (2011-2015) and that its economy will continue to grow steadily without a widely feared "hard landing."

Xi said that the Chinese economy will follow an upward trend without a hard landing, even though the country has suffered from a slowdown in economic growth and high levels of inflation. "With respect to economic development and the domestic consumption, we will further increase imports, including large amounts from the United States," Xi said.

The vice president added that the strict rules on exporting advanced technology products from the United States to China has led many American companies to miss opportunities in the Chinese market. He said the US should loosen restrictions back to 2011 standards to create a win-win situation for both countries.
