Four new Chinese surveillance ships were commissioned to South China Sea Maritime surveillance fleet on January 6, State Oceanic Administration announced Wednesday.

The four ships, Haijian 76, Haijian 77, Haijian 86 and Haijian 87, with a displacement of over 30 tons, will carry out patrol missions in the South China Sea and exercise law enforcement in the waters.

“The new vessels will enhance Chinese Navy’s capacity in response to emergencies and they are  also conducive to crashing illegal activities,” said deputy head of South China Sea Surveillance Fleet.
