US satellites spot China’s new warplane

By Mei Jingya, Sina English

The United States has obtained satellite imagery of China's new plane Y-20 at an airfield in NW China, according to an article published on Wire.com.

The images, acquired by the GeoEye 1 and IKONOS spacecraft — both belonging to commercial satellite operator GeoEye headquartered in Washington, D.C. — corroborate the general layout of the Y-20.

The IKONOS image is reportedly dated Dec. 25. It shows the Y-20 outside a large hangar at a PLA test establishment.

The GeoEye 1 photo from Jan. 1 depicts the new transport on one of the runways.

The report claims the Y-20 is currently undergoing runway taxi tests in preparation for its eventual first flight.
