BEIJING, Feb. 18 (Yonhap) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has voiced his firm commitment to try to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear program, saying Beijing will "resolutely" push forward with the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

"We will resolutely push forward with the denuclearization process of the peninsula, while resolving the issue through dialogue, and safeguarding peace and stability on the peninsula," Wang said in his article contributed to the influential Study Times on Monday, the journal of the Central Party School of the Communist Party of China.

Wang also said that China "will never allow troublemaking on our doorstep," in an apparent warning against its wayward ally North Korea.

Last week, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met with Chinese leaders in Beijing, including President Xi Jinping, with North Korea's denuclearization at the top of their agenda.

After talks with Wang, Kerry told reporters he encouraged China to "use every tool" to realize the goal of denuclearizing North Korea.

In addition, Kerry said China has been "prepared to take additional steps" if North Korea does not stop its nuclear weapons program, although it remains uncertain what the additional steps might be.

This week, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin is on a four-day visit to North Korea, making him the most senior Chinese official to visit Pyongyang since the high-profile purge of leader Kim Jong-un's uncle, Jang Song-thaek, in December last year.

Jang's dramatic downfall marked the biggest political upheaval in North Korea since late 2011, when the North's young leader Kim took power following the former leader and his father's death.

China, North Korea's key ally and economic lifeline, has been in a delicate position because Jang was considered a supporter of China-style reforms to revive the North's moribund economy and played an important role in dealing with economic projects with Beijing.
