Scotland Yard steals dead children’s identities to forge documents

London's Metropolitan Police stole the identities of some 80 children who had died at an early age and used them to create false documents like passports and driving licences for their undercover officers attempting to infiltrate protest groups, Britain's Guardian newspaper wrote on Sunday.

The practice had been authorized by the force for about three decades – between 1968 and 1994, the newspaper’s report says, with parents of the dead children unaware of the practice.

Scotland Yard assured they did not currently authorize the practice and had launched an investigation into "past arrangements".

An unnamed officer, who adopted the fake identity of Pete Black while operating undercover in anti-racist groups, told the newspaper he felt he was stomping on the grave" of the four-year-old boy whose identity he used.
