Japan mulling firing “warning shots” at Chinese plane

By Mei Jingya, Sina English

The Japanese government is considering strengthening its interception system after a Chinese surveillance plane approached the Diaoyu Islands and entered Japan's self-proclaimed “Air Defense Identification Zone” on Jan.8.

According to a report by Japan’s Sankei Shimbun, the Abe government is weighing the option of authorizing its F-15 warplane to fire “tracer bullets” to warn off Chinese planes flying over the Diaoyu Islands if they venture out defying the Japanese warning sent by radio.
