China calls for end to commercials' gift-sending hype

A notification was issued of late by The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) of China, which required the radio and television stations at all levels to immediately remove commercial ads on gift-sending .


The approaching Spring Festival has seen a soaring public sentiment of sending gifts duly accompanied by a surge of hypes on TV and radio programs that trumpet their products as best bets for gift-sending, the notification pointed out.


Some favorite candidates for present-sending include deluxe watches, rare and vintage stamps and commemorative coins made of gold or silver.


The hype of such luxuries, said the notification, are in essence complicit in preaching an unhealthy value which flouts the anti-extravagance campaign that is being carried out across the nation and must therefore be stopped in no time.
