Yuan Lihai’s relatives slam house hoarding accusation

By Jia Xiaoguang, Sina English

Some family members and friend of Yuan Lihai, the foster mother of the 7 abandoned children who were killed in the orphanage blaze in Lankao County, C China’s Henan Province on January 4th, refuted the rumor which suggested Yuan’s implication in house hoarding scandal and differential treatment for the adopted kids.

A recent feature story published on some Chinese magazine revealed that Yuan, far from a humble stall owner as reported earlier, was in fact the owner of over 20 properties which she purchased for herself and some of her family members.

Without stopping short of that, the story went so far as to subvert Yuan’s image of a “benevolent mother” as dubbed by the media, claiming that Yuan categorized her adopted children into several hierarchies and treated them differentially.

Much outraged by what they lambasted as a false and distorted report, some of Yuan’s kins and friends, including her eldest son, son-in-law and one of her confidants, denied the accusation and vowed to make public the family’s property to safeguard Yuan’s reputation.

“We will soon provide the certificate of house property and statement of our deposit. “said Yuan’s son-in-law Guo Haiyang. “Should the magazine fail to give their evidence, we will have to resort to legal action to settle the dispute.” He added.
